A large smartphone is about 16 × 7.5 cm (6.3 × 3 in). Any bag at least 20 cm (7.9 in) wide takes it flat. Sophie Small is for a girl who travels light: a card holder, keys and lipstick.

How to pick a color she will wear
Look at her shoes and her coat. These are the two things a bag sits next to all winter. Mostly black boots and a black or gray coat: a black bag, or a color that reads well on black, like Marsala or caramel. Mostly brown boots, camel and denim: brown, caramel suede or olive.

Decide how bold to be. A small bag is the place for color, because it is worn for a few hours and does not have to go with everything.
