Why leather for the third anniversary
The custom of matching each anniversary year to a material comes from old wedding etiquette lists. The first year is paper, the second cotton, the third leather. The usual explanation is simple: after three years the marriage has become tougher and more flexible, like leather that has been worn. Leather also asks for care, which suits the idea.
The ninth anniversary is listed as leather in many modern versions of the list too. Whichever year it is, a leather piece she carries every day is a gift she sees long after the dinner.

Clues you can find at home
Her current bag. Measure it. Width tells you what she needs to carry; the handle drop tells you whether she wears it on the shoulder (about 25 cm (9.8 in) or more) or in the hand.
Her complaints. "Everything falls to the bottom" means a bag with a zip or an inner pocket. "My shoulder hurts" means a lighter bag: Cecilie weighs 650 g (1.4 lb), Jane 700 g (1.5 lb), while Object №03 Medium is 800 g (1.8 lb).

Pieces in stock in the US arrive in 1–2 business days. Pieces from our atelier in Ukraine take 5–7 business days, and pieces made to order take 10–15, so check the timing on the product page against the date. If there is no time, a gift card of $100 to $1,000 is delivered by email, with a message from you, and never expires. You can then choose the bag together.
Packaging and returns
Every bag arrives in our box, wrapped in tissue paper and tied with a ribbon, in a fabric dust bag, with its tag and a care guide. There is no receipt or price in the parcel. Delivery on poelle.com is free and duties are included.
If the shape or color is not right, she has 30 days from delivery to return or exchange it, unused and with its box, dust bag and tags. She can arrange it herself; see our returns policy. Every bag is cut, stitched and finished in our own atelier in Horodok, Ukraine.
